Shawn’s Biography

My name is Shawn Bhajman, I was born in Trinidad (West Indies) and live at Pierre Rd. Charlieville, Chagaunas. I came from a talented musical family with a  religious and cultural background. My father and brother was my inspiration to learn music because, they were admired and highly respected in the community for their talent. I started to play the harmonium at the age of nine years old on my own; when I was about 13 years old my brother taught me a few chords on the keyboard, and guitar and I learn to play it very fast. I started to play rhythm guitar in my brother’s band after 3 months, I played with some of the most talented and experienced musicians out of Trinidad at that time; this gave me more inspiration for practicing to be at my best. I was most admired by Band Leaders and  Musicians alike and were asked to joined there band but, I was committed to my brother and his band. I free lance with a lot of groups and made a very good impression and uplifted there standard.                                                                       

 I played with the Melody Express Orch./ Melody Makers/ Naya Fasana/ Hum Diwaana/ Naya sansaar/ Anand Sangeet and the BWIA National Indian Orchestra, just to name a few. The BWIA Orchestra was one of the most recognized band in Trinidad that played on live TV for Mastana Bahar, a live singing and talent competetion like “sa” “re” “ga” “ma” “pa”. I migrated to New York in 1989 and form a band called the Starburst Indian Orch. I did many concerts in the New York Metropolitan area, I also free lance with a few Indian and Pakistani groups in New York and New Jersey area. I  became very well known and respected in the Indian community.    

 I played music for some professional artiste out of India, Pakistan and Bangladesh, also many professional artiste from the Caribbean. I was very fortunate to do two performance with Babla and Kanchan live in New York City. I also played with the Gemini Band of New York  for a few years; I did many recordings in Trinidad and New York for popular artistes who are very famous now. I learned Indian Lite Classical music in New York from a very well known professional Guru. I also took a course in Audio Engineering and Computer Base Digital Recording in New York City at Touro College and now I’m a Certified Audio Engineer doing recordings in Florida. I moved to Florida in Dec. 2004 and I am currently playing with the Florida Melody Makers Band and free lancing with other groups, I also do private gigs. I am a Singer/ Musician and Recording Engineer for hired. I give private and group Music Lesson on Keyboard, Guitar, Harmonium and voice training in lite classical style.
